A new office shaft rising off a listed quay shed: the plinth is ninety metres of 1904 brick, and the tower is careful never to touch it carelessly.

The brief.
The Lloydkwartier shed at quay number ninety is a protected monument with a leaking roof and a waiting list of creative tenants. The owner's problem: the shed alone can never fund its own restoration. The city's condition: whatever pays for it may not flatten it.
Our scheme lands the tower on four concrete legs threaded through the shed's bays, so the monument passes beneath the high-rise unbroken. The shed becomes the plinth (workshops, a food hall, the tower lobby in the old crane bay), and its restoration is the first line of the tower's budget, not the last.

The detailsthat carry it.
Four legs, zero walls removed
The tower's loads reach the ground through four 2.4-metre legs positioned in the shed's existing skylight bays. The 1904 trusses keep carrying exactly what they carried: their own roof.
The datum quotes the crane rail
The tower's heavier datum band sits at the height of the shed's old gantry crane rail, stretched skyward. From the quay the new shaft and the old shed share one horizon line.
Brick below, glass above, no imitation
The tower does not wear brick-print cladding out of politeness. New work is glass and steel and says so; the monument stays the only brick building on the plot. That is the whole point.
