Choosing the right agency.
Web design agencies differ in price, and even more in how they work and what you own once the site is live. These questions help you compare agencies fairly, even if you end up choosing someone else.
Look at work that is live
Polished portfolio images say little. Ask for websites that are live and open them on your phone. Do they load fast, can you find the contact button straight away and can you read without zooming in? Ask whether each one is client work or the agency’s own concept. We label every project: client work such as LP Elektro Technieken, and concepts we invented ourselves.
Ask how the process works
Who is your contact, when do you see work in progress and how many rounds of revisions are included? A good agency explains the steps up front and what it needs from you, such as text, photos and access to your domain. Ask who does the work, too. Do you talk directly to the designers and developers, or does everything go through an account manager?
Know what you own
Agree who owns the website, the design and the domain name after launch. Some agencies build on their own system, which you cannot take with you. Ask whether you could move to another provider later without starting over, and who holds the logins for your domain and hosting.
Compare proposals line by line
Put proposals side by side and check what each includes: number of pages, languages, forms, integrations, copywriting, images, hosting and maintenance. A low price without copy or a mobile design gets expensive later. Ask for one fixed price instead of an open hourly rate, and ask what extra work costs. Our free brief template helps you write down what you need, for any agency.
Editing and search visibility
If you want to update news, projects or opening hours yourself, ask whether that is possible and how it works. Ask what the agency does for search visibility: clear page titles, a logical structure, a fast site and a separate page for each service. Be careful with any agency that promises a top position on Google. Nobody can guarantee that.
